Returning the #98 modified to competition
Shamrock Motorsports is a second-generation racing team that competes on the Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams (SMART) and NASCAR Whelen tours.
The team traces its roots back to the 1960s when founder Justin Hanney's father, Ernie Hanney, would field entries in the #98 modified with famous drivers such as Bill Harman, Eddie Flemke and Richie Evans in the New England area.
After serving in Vietnam and moving to North Carolina in the 1970s, the #98 modified was retired to focus on building a motorsports business that remained as a pillar in the NASCAR community for more than 50 years. Shamrock Motorsports carries on the family racing tradition returning the #98 modified to competition.
